| Then came the Sun: now Albergo del Sole, one of the oldest hotels in the world was born. A precious piece of antiquity that expert restoration has brought back to its original splendour. An exclusive and intimate hotel far from the city chaos. Quality, courtesy, efficiency and helpfulness are the key-words of the hotel. As you enter you are welcomed in an attractive long, narrow lobby with arched ceiling, red-tiled floor, whitewashed walls and a very large, ornately framed antique oil painting over the reception desk. From the lobby, doors lead into the various lounges, which maintain the same elegantly simple, uncluttered look with white walls, white upholstered chairs and sofas, and antique accent pieces. One floor up is the lovely interior garden-patio which opens onto an intimate breakfast room. Look out for the montone (mouton, an Alpine goat) who gave his name to the original hotel on this site, founded in 1467. As the symbol of the hotel, his triplet of curled horns peep out from the silver-plated lobby furniture, from lampshades in the bar and on items of furniture in some rooms. |
